MN Landscape Arboretum tree hug snaps Guinness World Record

VICTORIA, Minn. (KMSP) -

The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum attracted enough tree-loving participants to break a world record on Friday.

A group of 935 tree-huggers may have snapped the Guinness World Record for the Largest Tree Hug, originally set at 702 participants in Cheshire, England two years ago.

Officials tallied the participants by counting each registrant who signed up on site and hugged a tree for at least one minute within the designated time frame.

The Arboretum's Shade Tree Exhibit was filled with nature enthusiasts of all ages who enjoyed the spring sun, took walks, strolled the gardens and had picnics.

Next, Arboretum staff will submit proof to the Guinness Book of World Record authorities for an official decision.
