The Anoka County medical examiner's office has identified the body of 27-year-old Danielle Jelinek after her body was pulled from a Chisago County lake on Friday afternoon.
Reported missing Dec. 9, 2012, her body was found approximately 200 yards away from Aaron Schnagl's Chisago Lakes Township home -- she originally disappeared from that home after a night out. Authorities call Schnagl a "person of interest" in the case, and the two have had an on-again, off-again relationship. Schnagl was the last person to see her and has said the two were intimate the night of her disappearance.
The Chisago County Sheriff's office was conducting an aerial search of the area Friday when something of interest was located in a swampy area. An airboat team, including the medical examiner, was called in and the body was recovered.
Shortly before sundown, the medical examiner's office confirmed the body was indeed Jelinek's, identified through dental records.
"The family is pretty shook up," said Chisago County Sheriff Rick Duncan. "I think they knew this was coming all along because I had several conversations with them to begin with."
Schnagl is currently in the St. Cloud Correctional Facility on unrelated drug charges. He has not been cooperative with authorities, nor has be given them any information that would have helped in the search for Jelinek.
The sheriff's office says the investigation is ongoing.
