Anthony Mitchell to enter plea as an adult in Anna Hurd murder charges
Anthony Mitchell, the 17-year old boyfriend charged with murdering 16-year old Anna Hurd will enter a plea as an adult after his certification hearing was waived. He will be sentenced later this month.
Mitchell told FOX 9 before his arrest that he found Hurd's body and gave police a detailed description of who they should be looking for. According to the charges, investigators say Mitchell changed that story several times.
Ramsey County Attorney John Choi detailed in the petition for charges that the couple was in the midst of a break up and that Anna was moving back to Texas.
Friends had told investigators that Mitchell was controlling and that he threatened to kill himself during an earlier breakup. They also said Mitchell had been showing off a knife at a party the night before Anna was found stabbed to death. Hurd's body was found in a wooded area near walking trails in Hillside Park early on the morning of February 23.
