Minnesota State Patrol to post DWI arrests on Twitter

Posted: Updated:
ST. PAUL, Minn. (KMSP) -

The Minnesota State Patrol is hoping Twitter updates of drivers arrested for DWI during the fishing opener weekend will help prevent drunk driving.

Friday night, 150 squads will hit the roads for the largest-ever, one-night DWI crackdown in the Twin Cities.

The Department of Public Safety plans to publish the age and gender of those arrested for DWI on Twitter with the hashtag #May10DWI.

Drunk driving accounts for one-third of deaths on Minnesota roads and up to 30,000 people are arrested for DWI each year.

Minnesota's fishing season opens officially on Saturday, May 11.
