EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (KMSP) -

Eden Prairie police released new information about the disappearance of 24-year-old Mandy Matula on Tuesday, confirming that DNA tests of a blood sample found on a jacket matched her profile.

Police found the blood on a jacket inside the black Ford Escape belonging to David Roe, the estranged 24-year-old boyfriend who fatally shot himself before speaking with police on Thursday.

Officials did not disclose how much blood was found, only saying that the presence of Matula's DNA was confirmed inside the vehicle.

Police also said ballistics tests confirmed the unfired bullet found in a search on Saturday indicate it had been at one point inside the chamber of the handgun Roe used to take his own life.

Roe is believed to be the last person who saw Matula on Wednesday night. Her family reported her missing to the Eden Prairie Police Department at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday when she did not arrive at work.

Through conversations with Matula's family, police identified Roe as a person of interest and contact him by phone. He agreed to meet investigators at the police department for questioning, but he shot himself inside his car in the Eden Prairie City Center parking lot before detectives could talk with him.

Roe was taken to HCMC, but on Saturday, the Hennepin County Medical Examiner confirmed he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Police recovered a goodbye message Roe left for his family on his cell phone, but it apparently did not mention Matula. Officers continue to review physical and electronic evidence in the search for her, including Roe's SUV, cell phone, computer, home and financial records.

Police believe Roe stopped at a Maple Grove Standard station to purchase gas at about 4 a.m. on Thursday, but cell phone data shows he also may have traveled to Carver and Stearns counties in the following hours.

Detectives continue to search in Eden Prairie, where both Matula and Roe graduated from high school. They plan to repeat surface checks on lakes in the area and work with search efforts organized through Facebook by Matula's younger brother, Steven.

Police said they have received "a tremendous amount of support" from Matula's family and friends and greatly value the leads and tips which continue to come in.

Anyone with information on Matula's location or who may have seen her with Roe on Wednesday night is urged to call the Eden Prairie Police Department at 952-949-6200.
