MAYWOOD, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Police and fire crews are again searching the Des Plaines River on Wednesday for the body of a 1-year-old west suburban boy allegedly beaten to death by his mother and her boyfriend.

Wednesday's search began about 9 a.m. in several areas of the Des Plaines River near 1st Avenue and Lake Street in Maywood and going south, according to Cook County Sheriff's spokeswoman Sophia Anasari.

That's where the pair allegedly tossed the body of Bryeon Hunter, Maywood police have said.

Hunter's mother, Lakesha Baker, 21, admitted that on April 15, her boyfriend, Michael Scott, 21, covered the child's mouth with his hand and held him down while she beat him with a belt, according to Cook County prosecutors.

The child ended up on the bathroom floor, "moaning and having difficulty breathing." Bryeon's torso was purple and bruised. He could not move," prosecutors said.

Both face murder charges. Baker is being held without bond, and Scott was ordered held on $750,000 bond.

Searchers had looked for the boy's body in the river last week and over the weekend, when flooding allowed it, and it's believed the search may be easier now as the water recedes, Anasari said.

There were several fire departments, as well as two bloodhound units, on the scene Wednesday to assist in the search.
