Pro photographers in the delivery room

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Proud parents taking photos of their newborn baby is nothing new. But some parents are taking it a step further.

They are hoping to capture more intimate moments by inviting professional photographers into the labor and delivery rooms.

"It really is just a beautiful miracle that happened.  And when you are in that moment don't get to enjoy it.  So when I did look back at the pictures, it gave me a different perspective," says Rebecca Canosa.

Long Islanders Rebecca and Jose Canosa chose Amanda Saldarelli to photograph their entire labor and delivery process.

"People are either horrified or really into it," says Saldarelli.  "There is no gray area between."

Saldarelli says birth photography is not for everyone.  She started to do it about a year ago working with clients delivering at home and hospital.

She says she's selective about booking clients because once she does, she's on-call 24-7, much like the doctor.

But she says she captures the worry, the pain, and ultimately, the joy in the delivery of each new life.

"I wish that someone did it for me.  That is how I became interested in it," Saldarelli says.

She charges $1,000 per shoot.  Saldarelli says if you are interested in a birth photography session, it is important to make plans early in the pregnancy and do research.  She recommends that parents-to-be look through the photographer's portfolios and make sure that their vision is the same as yours.
