The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) will finally open its public boat launches at Lake Nokomis and Lake Calhoun on Sunday, April 28.
A two-week cold weather delay put most launch openings on hold, and ice damage will cause the Lake Harriet public boat launch to remain closed until repairs are complete.
Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) inspectors will be on duty every day from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. to check all watercraft or water-related equipment. Boaters are encouraged to launch before 9 p.m. Boat launches will be locked when AIS inspectors are absent following a resolution passed by the MPRB Board of Commissioners in effort to protect the lakes from invasive species.
Only watercraft entering the water from the public boat launch will be inspected.
