MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) -

David Kahn will be fired and Flip Saunders will likely be hired as the Minnesota Timberwolves' next president of basketball operations, NBA.com's Steve Aschburner reported Friday.

The change is expected to be made official next week, according to the report.

Aschburner reports the 58-year-old Saunders has been negotiating a contract that could be worth more than $9 million over five years.

Saunders spent nine full seasons as Timberwolves coach, from 1995 to 2005, leading the team to eight consecutive playoff appearances and a 411-326 record.

Saunders, who has been working as an ESPN analyst, reportedly turned down an offer for the Gophers head coaching job in March after the firing of Tubby Smith.
