SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) -

The marijuana debate is heating up in Michigan.  Some lawmakers are leading a campaign to reduce the penalties for smoking pot.

Right now, if you get caught, you could face up to a $500 fine and three months in jail, but under this new proposal, offenders would get just a $25 ticket for their first offense.

Joining Huel Perkins and Charlie Langton on our panel to discuss was state Representative Jeff Irwin, a Democrat from Ann Arbor who is leading the charge, and Judge Jodi Debbrecht.
