PHOENIX -

For kids and parents in one valley school district, Wednesday was Bring Your Parents to School day. Parents got to experience side by side what their little student does in class at school.

"I couldn't sleep last night, one eye opened, so excited so happy to be here," says mom Vivian Hernandez.

It's not often you get to go to class with your kids. Parents and their children, learning lessons together at Sevilla Primary in Phoenix.

All 15 schools in the Alhambra School District hosted a Bring Your Parents to School Day.

"I'm trying to model question asking and giving them sentence stems to be able to use at home so they can realize that they can ask really simple questions to illicit some reaction from their kids," says kindergarten teacher Pam Davidson.

It provides parents an opportunity to learn what their kids are learning in class and better prepare the parent to help their child at home with schoolwork after class is out.

Everyone learned about subjects like science, math, technology and engineering together. They were even hands-on when it came to the classroom science project -- the baby chicks.

"It's very important to be with your child especially nowadays. You know everything going on out there and I love my son, so when you have that bond with your child you just want to do every little thing with them," says Hernandez.

"You get to partner with them, you get to play with them outside and you get to meet with people and read in class," says Cody.

This is the third year the Alhambra School District has planned the day for parents. It's one of the only districts in the state to have such a special day.
