St. Paul 6-year-old helps thwart attack on mother

Posted: Updated:
ST. PAUL, Minn. (KMSP) -

A 6-year-old boy helped thwart his father's attack upon his mother in St. Paul.

The boy's father, Gregory Harris, 37, pushed the mother down when she told him he couldn't stay at her house last weekend. Harris then jumped on top of her, punched and attempted to choke her, a criminal complaint says.

The 6-year-old hit Harris on the head with a telephone receiver. Harris ran after the boy who was trying to call 911 from a house phone that Harris had disabled. The boy then located another phone and called 911.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press said Harris fled when he saw police had arrived, but was tackled and arrested.

Harris violated the terms of his probation by visiting the boy's mother, his ex-girlfriend. He was originally convicted with domestic abuse in 2010. He received a no-contact order and later violated it in 2011, coupled with stalking charges.
