PINE CITY, Minn. (KMSP) -

Pine County police recovered the body of a missing snowmobiler from the St. Croix River on Sunday.

The Ramsey County Medical Examiner identified James Harlan Frentress, who was reported missing after breaking through the ice on Feb. 16, 2013. He was traveling with two friends in the dark approximately four miles north of the Soderbeck River Landing located at the end of Pine County Road 10. The other riders said Frentress hit a patch of open water and was thrown from his machine.

His body was located floating near the St. Croix's convergence with the Snake River on the Minnesota side of the river on Sunday.

Only able to recover the submerged snowmobile at the time of the incident, the Pine County Sheriff's Office had planned a large search for Frentress in three days, Pine County Sheriff Robin Cole said in a release.
