You Have The Power! Amazon Instant Video Makes YOUR Fav Shows

Posted: Updated:

There was a time when big TV studios would create pilot programs then put them before rooms full of people called "focus groups" to determine if any tweaks or adjustments should be made to those programs, or maybe if they should even be aired at all. The internet and Amazon Instant Video is changing that and today you get to decide what may be the next hit children's show or sitcom.

The line on Amazon Instant Video's Amazon Original Pilots section says, "You help decide which shows become series. Watch now for free." That's it, but there's alot of information in those two sentences. Unlike Nielsen ratings, the traditional metric for gauging television veiwership, the internet can provide real numbers. Nielsen works by giving TV execs ratings' samples based on a relatively small group of people watching programming, but when you have YouTube videos with multiple millions of views you now have a very different dynamic for gauging the public's interest in something. Pageview, unique views, clicks, downloads, these metrics all offer a much more accurate view of how many people are regularly engaging with a particular piece of media and companies like Netflix with its recent hit, House of Cards and Amazon with the pilots you now have access to are betting on those numbers big time!

Right now, you can hit Amazon's site and help determine which of six kids' pilots might be the next big thing your own children are glued to and asking for the associated dolls, toys and other merchandising from. In addition to the the children's fare, there are also eight comedy pilots begging for space in your viewing shedule. How is Amazon going about determining which one gets the "green light?" On the right side of the page, there's a link which takes you to a survey which they say should take only 5 minutes to complete, and one below that which allows you to write a customer review for the show of your chooosing.

So, click the link here and check out the shows. Have you watched any? Let us know in the comments below.
