Philadelphia school district officials have changed their plans to close Dimner Beeber Middle School and instead will propose changing the school's grade configuration, district officials announced Tuesday.
The middle school was slated to close along with several other district buildings.
District officials say comments from parents and students along with a review of the turnaround plan led them to the decision to keep the school open.
The original recommendation called for the middle to school to close, which would have meant students in seventh and eighth grades would relocate to Overbrook High School. The plan also called for the reconfiguration of Overbrook Elementary to a K-6 school, which officials say will still move forward.
The district says it will propose changing the current grade configuration to include seventh and eighth grades.
Tonight look for cloudy and foggy skies with spotty showers N&W. Lows in the 50s.
Our next cold front comes through tomorrow, with rain, in the morning and then especially Friday evening. With the blast of cold air that follows, we'll probably have a dry day on Saturday, and the chance of a Sunday wintry mix into the afternoon and evening. A light coating could occur for some before a changeover to rain. Stay tuned!
