Gov Dayton proclaims today Gopher women's hockey National Championship day
The celebration for the Gophers Women's hockey team continued Monday afternoon as Governor Mark Dayton met the team at Ridder Arena and proclaimed today Gopher Women's hockey National Champions day in Minnesota. The Governor was joined by Chief Justice of the Minnesota Supreme Court Lorie Gildea to celebrate the teams NCAA National Championship and their undefeated record.
"What a phenomenal season and what a phenomenal group of athletes," said Governor Dayton. "What I also appreciated about the team, 41 wins, no losses, no ties just a phenomenal record."
The Governor added he appreciated the drama and close games in the playoffs including the overtime win against North Dakota.
"I got a computer feed from the University of North Dakota," said Dayton. "It cost me seven dollars and I'm sure you get it free in North Dakota but the puck was about the size of a bb. All I could do is watch somebody shoot and see if somebody cheered or not."
