NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

A Long Island man is accused of a crazed attack on a pair of elderly golfers.  The man is also accused of using racial slurs during the attack.

Nassau County Police say it happened Tuesday morning in East Meadow.

Police say that Grant Smith, 48, was playing alone at Eisenhower Park when he approached two elderly men.  The men say Smith made rude comments to them on the third hole.

They say that when they got to the fifth hole, Smith began yelling and calling them racial slurs.

Smith is then accused of hitting one of the victims, a 65-year-old man, with a golf club.  The head of the club broke off as it hit the man's left calf.

The victims say Smith then threatened to stab them with the broken club.  They backed away and called police as Smith ran away.

Police were able to track down Smith at his home on Thursday and placed him under arrest.

Smith is charged with two counts of assault and menacing.  He was to be arraigned on Friday, April 12, 2013 in Hempstead.

The man who was hit in the calf was treated at an area hospital for a contusion to his calf.
