Central Park Conservancy's spring celebration

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

It sure was a beautiful day in Central Park for the Central Park Conservancy's Central to Spring event. But it turns out we celebrated under the umbrellas. A little lighting and thunder didn't stop the festivities. The conservancy went on with the show.

Hundreds of people came out to Bethesda Terrace to enjoy the music, refreshments, and free cookies for the free celebration of spring.

This nonprofit organization raises money to support the beautification of the park. Its staff members have mowed 250 acres of lawn and are in the process of planting 57,000 trees and flowers.

The rain didn't stop the party. For 15 minutes fireworks lit the sky and could be seen not only in Central Park but throughout the city.

It appears the subway bedbug problem we've been reporting is getting worse. Commuters already have to contend with sweltering platforms, scurrying rats and packed train cars, and now there's another transit woe: fear of bedbugs.
