Maple Grove names Tom Starkey new boys hockey coach

Tom Starkey has been named the new head varsity hockey coach at Maple Grove taking over the program for Gary Stefano. Starkey, a 2000 graduate of Maple Grove was the captain of the Crimson in his senior season and holds several Crimson records including most goals in one game (4) and most hat tricks in one season (4) in 1997-1998. He is fifth on the career scoring leaders list with 62 goals and 59 assists.

Starkey played college hockey at Air Force and graduated from the academy with a degree in business management. He also became a 2nd Lientenant, US Air Force Officer.

At Air Force, Starkey played in 138 games finishing with 22 goals and 24 assists. He was named most improved player as a sophomore finishing with nine goals and nine assists.

Starkey has most recently served as a junior varsity and varsity assistant in the Wayzata program.
