Five Men Arrested For Bank Heist Scheme

Los Angeles, CA -

(FOX 11) "This is something out of a movie script," Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca told reporters Wednesday.

The script would call for five unemployed guys, at night, cutting through the roofs of banks in the San Gabriel Valley, hiding inside fake roofing covering the holes when the helicopters checked out the alarms.

And then they would break into the vault taking cash, safe deposit jewelry, all kinds of things and driving away in unmarked vehicles.

But this isn't a movie.

Five men are under arrest and accused of running a sophisticated and well organized bank robbery scheme, which earned them more than $6 million dollars in goods.

The suspects -- Laurentiu Penescu, 38 of Yucaipa; Lucian Isaia 32, of Beaumont; Alceu Andreis, 44 from Banning; Dean Andrew Muniz 45, of Fontana; and Daniel Soto, 36, of Riverside -- face burglary, conspiracy, grand theft and vandalism charges.

Are all being held on $500,000 bail. The five are scheduled to be arraigned April 23 in Pomona Superior Court.

Sheriff's detectives said they left DNA evidence behind at one of the banks, and because four out of the five suspects had a prior record, cops were able to match their DNA and begin tailing them.

On Friday morning when they hit a Citibank on S. Diamond Bar Blvd, police were watching and once they tried to get away, the Sheriff's Department moved in and arrested them.

"They didn't seem surprised to see us," said Det. Nick Cannis. "They probably knew this day was coming."

So far, authorities have recovered $30,000 in cash as well as collectible cars, boats, Ducati motorcycles and the power tools used for the break ins.

Authorities believe they may have pulled off other bank heists outside LA County.
