Susan Eva Porter: Children Haven't Changed, We Have Changed

Posted: Updated:

She's been a teacher, school administrator, and a clinical social worker. Porter has written a book called "Bully Nation" and in it, she says kids today are no different than they were 25 years ago.

Porter says what has changed is how society labels kids who pick on other kids. She told Steve and Maria that labels like "bully" create more problems than answers to the problem and explains why bullies, or "kids who make mistakes" are also victims and need just as much help as those who are picked on. They also discuss the one big thing that has changed over the years that actually makes bullying more intense than ever before.

About Susan Eva Porter: Susan has worked in schools for 25 years. She began her career at Phillips Exeter Academy, where she launched the school's Health Education program, and since then she has worked with students at every level, from pre-K through graduate school. She has held positions in schools on both the East and West coasts, including counselor, health educator, administrator, trustee, and consultant. Dr. Porter received a bachelor's degree from Brown University, a master's in education from the University of Pennsylvania, a master's in clinical social work from the Smith College School for Social Work, and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute. She currently lives and works in Marin County, California.

"Bully Nation" is available in stores and online now. You can also check out Susan Eva Porter's Facebook page.
