Minneapolis schools names Trent Tucker new athletic director
Former Minnesota Gopher and NBA star Trent Tucker has been named athletic director for Minneapolis Public Schools. Tucker replaces longtime and well respected athletic director John Washington, who retired last fall.
"I've always placed a huge value on the role athletics play in the development of children," Tucker said in a news release. "I am committed to strengthening Minneapolis Public Schools' athletic program through teamwork, community-building and partnerships."
Tucker, a 1982 first round draft pick by the New York Knicks played 11 seasons in the NBA, winning a championship with the Chicago Bulls in his final season. Since retiring, Tucker has worked with underprivileged and at-risk youth as well as serving as a color analyst for the Minnesota Timberwolves.
