Arias trial fosters legion of dedicated court watchers

PHOENIX -

We are all well aware about the frenzy surrounding the Jodi Arias trial. It's even spawned a legion of loyal court viewers. Some, we discovered, are willing to wait hours just for a seat in the courtroom.

It looks like a line for Black Friday deals, or people waiting for tickets to a big concert, but this line forming at 3:30 in the morning is of people hoping to see the Jodi Arias murder trial firsthand.

"I am a trial groupie. I got up at 3:45 this morning."

Linda Boreman was one of those outside of the phoenix courthouse hours before sunrise.

"I'm just very fascinated by it. I grew up in a family of lawyers, wanted to be one, probably should have been one," she says.

Mikal Ann Dillon has been coming for 2 and a half months.

"I decided this was interesting and when I got into it, my heart went out to Travis's family."

And she's not alone in her devotion.

"Oh my god it is crazy. Yesterday people were fighting over seats, fighting over seats and where to sit. It's sad that it's come to this because it really is about the Travis thing and I hate to see that kind of thing happen."

John Freer, another regular, says the crowds have grown in the past few weeks.

"I've been here for the last 3 weeks and it's just getting worse with the people and it's coming to the end, everyone wants to know what going on.

Freer follows the daily testimony closely -- but that's not the only thing he pays attention to.

"It's interesting to watch jury's reaction and family's reaction and getting questions answered… you want to get up there and ask your own questions."

And for this group, it's turned out to be more than just a daily fascination.

"It's fun to see strangers in the waiting room and become friends and I already have emails and phone numbers and things."
