CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WJBK) -

An extensive three-day manhunt came to an end Sunday, when a Chesterfield Police officer discovered a young man wanted for the attempted murder of his girlfriend.

Jonathan Elbers, 23, was arrested Sunday at 12:45 p.m., when Officer Frank Unger discovered him hiding in a deer blind.

The deer blind is located in a heavily wooded area, just north of Washington Road and east of I-94.

Elbers was taken into custody without incident and is cooperating with investigators.

Chesterfield Township Police say they were called to a home on Nicolette near Oakwood at 1:00 a.m. Friday.

They say Elbers' 20-year-old girlfriend informed him she was breaking up with him. Elbers, police say, drove from the Thumb. He got into her home, tied her up and was actually stuffing her into a large bag designed to cover an artificial Christmas tree.

Police say that Elbers told his ex-girlfriend he was going to put her in the back of his truck and shoot her in the head, and when police arrived, the ex-girlfriend struck Elbers with a glass statue seriously cutting his head.

Elbers is expected to be arraigned Monday morning in New Baltimore.
