Former Edina star Lee makes NHL debut, scores in Islanders win

Posted: Updated:

There was no question as to if Anders Lee would play NHL hockey, it was only a matter of when. Lee played 84 games with Notre Dame scoring 41 goals and adding 37 points so common sense would say his game would translate at the next level.

It did.

Lee made his NHL debut with the Islanders and while playing at the highest level was always on his radar, scoring a goal in his first game was gravy.

With his parents watching his first game, Lee skated into the zone and threw a seemingly innocent wrist shot toward Winnipeg goalie Ondrej Pavelec. The angle wasn't the best but Lee made it count catching Pavelec off guard and picking up his first of what will be many NHL goals.

"I was just so surprised, I just threw it on there and it happened to go in then the boys coming to congratulate me was pretty awesome," Lee said after the game. "To do anything and help these to help this team win, I'm absolutely all game."
