Massive marijuana bust in NYC

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

The NYPD bused a huge post growing operation in Queens.

Members of the NYPD found the marijuana plants, lamps and growing equipment inside of 11-27 44th Road in Long Island City.

More than 1,000 pot plants were seized.

Five people were arrested in connection with the raid.

    A special New York Police Department unit that sparked controversy by tracking the daily lives of Muslims in an effort to detect terror threats has been disbanded, police officials said Tuesday. NYPD spokesman Stephen Davis confirmed that detectives assigned to the unit had been transferred to other duties within the department's Intelligence Division.

    Thousands of police officers lined Beach 84th Street in Rockaway Beach, Queens, to say a final goodbye to one of their own and salute his heroism and sacrifice. Police Officer Dennis Guerra, 38, died from smoke inhalation after rushing to a fire in Coney Island high rise on April 6. Deputy Inspector Carlos Valdez, Guerra's commanding officer, said the 8-year veteran will be remembered for his dedication to helping others.
