8 Tips On Getting A Better Night's Sleep

Posted: Updated:
Los Angeles, CA -

(FOX 11) Do you have trouble getting a good night's rest? You might want to have your blood sugar tested.

The Journal of the American Medical Association reports people with diabetes are twice as likely to be deficient in melatonin as non-diabetics. Melatonin is widely known as the brain's sleep hormone. When you don't produce enough of it, it can be hard to get enough rest.

Diabetes isn't the only medical condition to be linked to sleep disorders; heart disease, allergies, and anxiety are all associated with sleep deprivation. And of course not enough sleep can make any condition worse.

Clinical psychologist and sleep specialist Dr. Michael Breus recommends the following tips:

1) 15 minutes of sun every morning

2) No caffeine after 2 pm

3) No alcohol after 3 pm

4) No excercise four hours before bed

5) Get some lavender

6) Wear an eye mask

7) Keep a "worry journal"

8) Use Breathe Right strips

Dr. Breus has also designed his own line of pillows and mattresses which are sold exclusively at Sit and Sleep. For more on sleep disorders visit his website HERE.
