Olympians to cut ribbon on curling arena additions

BLAINE, Minn. (KMSP) -

A training facility that attracts elite athletes around the world will cut the ribbon on a brand new arena update on Tuesday night.

Fogerty Arena in Blaine, Minn., is a curling facility that allows world-class athletes to practice all year long when curling ice is hard to come by. Curling champions, teams, supporting businesses and community members will help celebrate the grand opening 28,100-square-foot addition Tuesday through Sunday, April 7.

In-arena dining at Gabe's Rinkside Bar & Grill includes a nightly free appetizer buffet and prizes for visitors.

Ribbon cutting will begin at 7 p.m. and the 12 curling teams will play to commemorate the grand opening of the facility.

Curling Champions scheduled to be at the April 2 Ribbon Cutting, 7 p.m.:

Courtney George-Two-time Junior National Champion and alternate for the 2006 Olympic team; participated in five World Championships and made her skipping debut at Women's Nationals this year reaching her first Women's final

Alex Carlson: Two-time US Junior National Champion

Tabitha Peterson: Lead for Team Pottinger, the 2012 US National Champions, and looking forward to the 2014 Olympic Trials in November

Tara Peterson: Second for Team Hamilton, a three time US Junior National Champion

Allison Pottinger: Eighteen-time US Nationals participant, eleven time US National Champion, member of Team USA at the 2010 Olympic Games

Doug Pottinger: Nine-time US Nationals participant, member of Team USA at the 2004 World Championships

Rich Ruohonen: Twelve-time US Nationals participant, member of the Team USA at the 2008 World Championships

Jessica Schultz: Nine-time US Nationals participant, member of Team USA at the 2006 Olympic Games and 2013 World Championships

John Gordon: Three time US National Champion, member of Team USA at the 1998 and 2002 Olympic Games

Sophie Brorson: Lead for Team Hamilton, a three time US Junior National Champion

Pete and Maureen Stolt: 2013 US Mixed Doubles Nationals Champions, 2012 US Mixed Doubles Nationals third place
