Colt McCoy rumors abound

Posted: Updated:

A Cleveland newspaper claims that Browns quarterback Colt McCoy could be on the trading block or released.

The Plain Dealer reports that the Browns will listen to offers for the backup QB.

The Browns have Brandon Weeden as their starter.  McCoy was the backup last year but the team has signed quarterback Jason Campbell and also have Thad Lewis as a reserve.  That leaves little room for McCoy.

The rumors, not confirmed by the team, also claim that McCoy could seek his release so that he can sign with another team.

The right-hander was thrown out in the second inning when plate umpire Gerry Davis found a shiny substance on the right side of Pineda's neck after Red Sox manager John Farrell asked him to check. Pineda walked from the mound without protest.

Running just two weeks before his 39th birthday, he had the names of the 2013 bombing victims on his bib.
