Police arrested a second suspect in a homicide case where a man and a woman's remains were found buried in a Phoenix backyard.

Phoenix Police Sgt. Tommy Thompson says 22-year-old Elise Andrea Garcia was arrested on Monday because detectives believe she helped her boyfriend, 42-year-old Alan Matthew Champagne, allegedly kill and bury two people.

Thompson didn't say what evidence they have linking Garcia to the crimes.

Champagne is accused of killing 32-year-old Philmon Tapaha and 26-year-old Brandi Nicole Hoffner.

Landscapers found the bodies on March 5 while working for the new owners of a home where Champagne's mother had lived. Officers found the bodies in a makeshift coffin buried in a shallow grave.

Investigators believe Champagne killed Tapaha and Hoffner after having a fight at an apartment in 2011.

Garcia was booked into jail and charged with first degree murder and unlawful disposal of human remains.
