SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -

Scottsdale Police say a man admitted to strangling his wife on Wednesday at a home near Thompson Peak Parkway and Bell Road.

According to Scottsdale Police Sgt. Mark Clark, 61-year-old Michael J. Cohn called 911 about 11 a.m. and said he strangled his wife, 60-year-old Linda Cohn.

When officers arrived, Michael Cohn willingly came out of the home and was arrested.

Police say he admitted to strangling his wife with his bare hands and that she'd been dead for about an hour when officers arrived.

Clark says they found Linda Cohn dead inside the home. He's calling this a case of domestic violence.

Neighbors told FOX 10 they are stunned by the news and that the couple was in ill health.

"Very nice man," stated a neighbor. "I talk to him often when I'm walking my dog, he's very congenial, very friendly. Both of them are retired because they're both very ill. He has a tumor in his back from what I understand, very sad. He told me his wife has severe rheumatoid arthritis last year."

There didn't appear to be any signs of a struggle inside the house, Clark added. It's not clear if the house had a history of police calls.

Linda Cohn's exact cause of death hasn't been determined yet.

Michael Cohn was booked on one count of first degree murder.
