The Metrodome will host its final University of Minnesota baseball game on Wednesday as the Golden Gophers face South Dakota at 6:35 p.m.
After a lengthy planning, negotiation and construction phase dating back to 1975, the Dome was first inflated on Oct. 2, 1981, and the stadium was completed in April 1982.
The Gopher baseball team first played in the Dome on March 31, 1984 against Creighton.
The venue's college baseball schedule will end Saturday with a game between North Dakota State and North Dakota.
The Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority has been getting calls from colleges looking to book baseball games in early April if the weather doesn't clear up.
Plans are in motion for a Metrodome tear-down early next year, in its place, the Minnesota Vikings' new stadium. The Vikings' new stadium will be designed to accommodate a baseball field.
