Investigators: Fake Pilot Used Mom's Air France ID Card

PHILADELPHIA -

Federal investigators say the man accused of pretending to be an Air France pilot when he boarded a plane at Philadelphia International Airport last week was using his mom's airline identification card.

According to a federal criminal complaint released Monday, Philippe Jeannard allegedly doctored his mom's Air France ID card by adding his own name and picture to it.

Investigators say Jeannard boarded a US Airways flight set to depart from Philadelphia International Airport last Thursday and managed to get inside the cockpit, where he sat down in the jump seat.

When spotted by a US Airways gate agent and told to leave the cockpit, investigators say Jeannard became verbally abusive with the agent and a flight attendant. He was eventually removed from the plane.

During the incident, investigators say Jeannard was wearing a white button-down shirt with an Air France logo and captain's epaulets on his shoulder. After he was removed from the plane, Philadelphia police officers found documents that appeared to be Air France checklists and flight plans in a briefcase he was carrying, according to the complaint.

Before even boarding the plane, investigators say Jeannard asked about an upgrade to first class at the airline's check-in counter. When he was told there were no seats available, the complaint says he became upset but still boarded the plane.

Jeannard faces federal and local charges.
