SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (myFOXDetroit.com) -

Traffic on Telegraph Road was backed up for miles Sunday morning, while Southfield Police investigated a three-car crash that left one woman dead.

According to police, shortly after 7:30 a.m., a vehicle traveling northbound on Telegraph near Eight Mile struck another vehicle also heading northbound.

The driver of the first car then hit a third vehicle, forcing it onto the median and straight into a tree.

The woman driving the third car had to be extricated from her white SUV, but did not survive her injuries.

Police said the driver who caused the crash jumped out of his car and tried to run, but was picked up just a few minutes later. He was arrested with pending charges.

Debris from the crash littered the road, and traffic was quickly re-routed.

No other details were released by police.
