NEW ULM, Minn. (KMSP) -

August Schell Brewing Company said its resident whitetail buck was found shot and killed in the New Ulm, Minn. brewery's deer pen Friday.

New Ulm police said they were contacted by the brewery at 10:30 a.m. Friday to report an incident of animal cruelty. A responding officer determined the buck -- owned by the brewery and kept in a fenced deer park on the property -- had been killed in the past 36 hours.

The deer had lived in the Schell's deer park since last summer.

New Ulm police and the Minnesota DNR are investigating this case. Anyone with information is asked to call Turn-In-Poachers (TIP) at 800-652-9093 or the New Ulm Police Department at 507-233-6750.

Schell's Brewery president Ted Marti is offering a reward for any information leading to an arrest and conviction.

The whitetail buck is the mascot of Schell's Brewing -- a prominent part of the brand's logo and history. Schell's Deer Brand remains the brewery's flagship beer -- a recipe developed before Prohibition that has been continuously brewed for 150 years.
