Prosecutor Indicts Punxsutawny Phil For False Predictions

Posted: Updated:
CINCINNATI -

You saw us punish Punxsutawny Phil this week for his bad predictions for this spring.

Well, one Ohio city's got something more severe in mind – the death penalty!

We watched officials pull the groundhog out in February, when he did not see his shadow, which is supposed to mean an early spring.

A Cincinnati prosecutor filed an indictment against Phil To hold him personally responsible for his false prediction!

"When I came to work in the wind and the cold, I said to myself, 'Something is wrong with Phil.' You know Punxsutawney has some answers that he needs to give," Butler County Prosecutor Mike Gmoser said. "And, of course, I'm seeking the death penalty because, let's face it, Phil is already behind bars with a life sentence."

The prosecutor insists his heart will soften. He says he's always liked Phil in the past. He just wants winter over.
