Basketblog: State Tourney Edition

Posted: Updated:

The madness of march extends far beyond the weather being January like. People keep reminding me that it was in the 80's last year at this time and to be honest, I don't remember. What I know now is that as a basketball guy, I am in heaven sitting courtside for the MN boys tourney. Yeah I know this is the state of hockey and there is no high school event in the nation that rivals our state hockey tournament (outside of Indiana basketball).

I love the semi-final field and there will be a new champ crowned in the big schools. Top seeded Apple Valley led by the top junior in the nation Tyus Jones is in play and should advance his Eagles to Saturday's title game as they will face Eden Prairie in the first semi-final game this evening. The second game holds more of the drama as Park Center and Edina will wage a war on the court that should be worth the price of admission. Edina guard Graham Woodward dropped 40 on Andover in the quarterfinals and will need to handle the load for the Hornets if a championship is in their cards. The task will not be easy as Park Center is deep and physical. The Pirates have played in tight games the past three including an overtime win over Lakeville North yesterday.

So let the madness begin and let the Mountain Dew flow on media row!

We're hoopin it up at Target Center.
