Three times prior, the Minneota Vikings made their way to the state tournament and three times their journey for a championship ended seemingly before it began as the Vikings lost in the first round of the big dance. With the pressure of advancing mounting, Minneota not only advanced, they took the title with a 61-51 win over Ada-Borup.
"We needed to be confident becasuse we knew there were better teams here," said sophomore Taylor Reiss who led the team with a double-double 30 points and 12 rebounds. "Just to win this is like the best feeling ever."
With the game hanging in the balance, the Vikings led the Cougars 50-47 when Emily Stienessen missed the front end of a one-on-one but Reiss grabbed the rebound and scored in essence putting the game away.
"I move my feet really quickly so I am able to step in front of people," said Reiss. "I work really hard and I wanted that rebound."
Payton Boerboom and Stienessen also found double-digits in scoring with 13 and 11 points each.
