CPS to increase safety plan for schools transition

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Chicago Public Schools are laying out their plan to keep students safe when consolidation hits next fall.

A lot of parents say they're worried about their kids crossing through gang territory to get to new schools.

CPS says it will expand the "safe passage" program and add volunteers to the routes kids take to school.

Schools will also get an extra security guard and officials will look at whether specific buildings need extra security cameras or metal detectors.

The final decision on school closings is expected by the end of the month.
