PHOENIX (AP) - A man and woman have been arrested in connection with the theft of expensive golf clubs from resorts in the Phoenix metropolitan area.

Phoenix police say 26-year-old Gregory Smithwick and 27-year-old Abigail Johnson are being held on suspicion of property theft.

They allegedly were selling the club sets valued at up to $3,000 to someone who then sold them online.

A victim at the Orange Tree Golf Resort near 56th Street and Cholla got the license plate number from a suspect's vehicle and that led officers to Smithwick.

Police began monitoring Smithwick's movements and saw he and Johnson continuously traveled to golf resorts at varying hours of the day.

They say the two were arrested after Smithwick was seen stealing two sets of golf clubs from Pinnacle Peak Country Club on March 5.
