There has never been a better time to shave your head to help someone else. The time is now and the organization is St. Baldrick's. Help fund St. Baldrick's cancer research by shaving your head or donating to someone else, all to benefit children diagnosed with cancer. On Saturday March 16, St. Baldrick's is putting the bald into St. Baldrick's during the parade and shavee event.
The 2012 event raised more than $295,000 and had 542 supporters. The goal this year is for 600 people to shave their heads and raise $300,000. Each person that shaves their head gets supporters to donate money to the cause. The event benefits St. Baldrick's, an organization that funds cancer research for children. 175,000 kids are diagnosed with cancer every year, but there is not enough money going towards helping the children.
"My mother and stepfather passed away of cancer, so I like to do something. It's a good cause and it makes me happy," said Catie Corpt, shavee featured on Fox2.
The parade begins at noon near the Kezar Library on Main street in Romeo. Bands, local restaurants and a raffle are also included in the event. Raffle prizes include a 60 inch LED TV, a Niklas Kronwall autographed game stick, a Brady Hoke signed football, a Alex Avila signed photo, Red Wings tickets, Piston tickets, Cropping Daze weekend retreat, restaurants and more. There is even something for children at the Lion's field house, where kid friendly activities will be available.
The event begins at 11 a.m. with shavee registration and goes until 5:30 p.m. when raffle prizes are announced.
