When Popeye's Chicken opened a new location in Brooklyn Park, word spread fast -- and the demand for fried chicken led to so much congestion in the parking lot that police were called in to help keep traffic (and chicken) moving.
The owners of the franchise say they simply didn't anticipate so many customers clamoring for chicken on the third day of their grand opening, but the long lines stretched out into a traffic jam that left some sitting for up to an hour just to go through the drive-thru.
Yet, the location of the Popeye's drive-thru had some visitors grumbling because it's right between the Wells Fargo bank and the McDonalds -- and the complaints from those customers kept coming in.
The Starlight Shopping Center is one of the busiest in Brooklyn Park, and the traffic outside the newest addition even surprised the owners as well, which is why they called in the police and paid them for their time. Even so, many customers said the scene was still chaotic.
