In South Jersey Burglaries, Police Say Thieves Are After Copper Pipes

Posted: Updated:
MAPLE SHADE, N.J. -

Police in Maple Shade are investigating a string of burglaries where the thieves appear to be targeting homes that are either up for sale or otherwise empty.

Police are investigating two burglaries reported Sunday where thieves stole copper pipes, causing one of the homes to flood.

Officers found the pipes from an empty house on the 200 block of West Germantown Avenue were cut out, causing the home's crawlspace to flood. Water eventually poured out of the home and into neighbors' yards.

In another burglary reported Sunday, police say the thieves stole copper pipes from an empty home on the 200 block of South Forklanding Road.

Investigators the Sunday burglaries may be connected to several similar crimes reported in nearby areas dating back to December of last year.

Investigators believe the thieves could be mistaken for legitimate work crews that are likely blending in with the neighborhood.
