The Talker: Is `5:2` the formula for losing weight?

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
If someone told you there's a diet that can make you lose weight, get healthier, live longer, and is reasonably easy to stick to, would you believe it?
There's reason to think the "fast diet" might actually live up to the hype. "The Fast Diet" is a book that's been selling like crazy since it came out in January in Britain and now a U.S. edition is out.
The term "fast diet" refers not to speed, but to actual fasting--but not entirely. The diet supports something closer to what's known as "intermittent fasting."
The key formula to remember is "5 to 2." That's five days of eating normally, and two days of eating a very low-calorie diet. On those two days, women are supposed to eat 500 calories per day and men, 600 calories. That's about the equivalent of a small omelet for breakfast and fish and veggies for dinner.
There is research to back-up the benefits of intermittent fasting, though not every expert agrees it's a good idea. One positive is that it's relatively easy to stick with, so it could encourage long-term healthy eating habits.
