NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Flooding was a problem Thursday in several towns along the Jersey Shore after a much weaker than anticipated storm hit the area. More snow and a wintry mix were in the forecast for later in the day.

Pounding surf broke through a temporary dune that was devastated by Superstorm Sandy.

Route 35 is closed in the northern part Mantoloking as crews labor to plug the hole with sand.

The breach sent water flowing onto the highway, but the tide is going out now.

Flooding from this morning's high tide is also lingering in Sea Bright, Monmouth Beach, Absecon, Aberdeen, Egg Harbor Township and Wildwood.

A coastal flood warning remains in effect until 9 a.m. Friday.

Forecasters are not expecting today's wind to be as strong as Wednesday.

Northern New Jersey faces the possibility of 2 to 4 inches of snow from Thursday night into Friday morning.

Scattered power outages remain, mainly in Cape May County.

New Jersey's Emergency Operations Center is open.

Brick Township and Toms River called for voluntary evacuations in flood-prone areas on Wednesday.

NJ Transit is cross-honoring tickets and passes through Friday.
