CAMDEN, N.J. -

Friends of the Camden police officer injured during a Tuesday morning police chase tell FOX 29 he is a well known member of their community.

"He's always personal, you know what I mean?" Butch Craven, a close friend of veteran Camden police officer Sekou Reid-Bey told FOX 29.

Officer Reid-Bey pulled over a jeep for an illegal right turn on a red light when police say two suspects jumped into his police car and hit the gas, striking him as they took off.

Fighting to save his life, Reid-Bey rolled himself over to the sidewalk and called for help over his police radio.

The injured officer is recovering from fractured legs.
