Forbes released its 27th annual Billionaires List – a record 1,426 billionaires made this year's ranking. Carlos Slim Helú of Telecom topped the list for the fourth year in a row, with a net worth of $73 billion. Bill Gates came in at number two with a net worth of $67 billion. Zara's Amancio Ortega, business magnate and Berkshire Hathaway chairman/CEO Warren Buffett and Oracle's Larry Ellison round out the top five.
Minnesotans continued to make their mark on the list this year, with Barbara Carlson Gage of Carlson Inc. operates more than 1,300 hotels (Radisson, Country Inns & Suites), 900 T.G.I. Friday's restaurants and holds a majority stake in Carlson Wagonlit Travel. She jointly owns Carlson Inc. with her sister, Marilyn Carlson Nelson. The pair shared the 316th spot. Rounding out the list for Minnesota includes Cargill's Whitney MacMillan, chairman/CEO of Hubbard Broadcasting Stanley Hubbard, and Taylor Corp. printing mogul and Timberwolves/Lynx majority owner Glen Taylor.
