A Roseville teenager is headed to the nation's capital to compete in the National Spelling Bee.
Jacob Lahti, 13, won the 7-County Metro Area Regional Spelling Bee on March 2 at Hoversten Chapel at Augsburg College. A total of 50 students from 50 schools took part in the competition.
Lahti correctly spelled words "mobiliary" and "Rembrandt" to clinch the win in the 12th round. Ten-year-old Nidhi Jois of Forest Hills Elementary School won second place. She was eliminated in the 12th round for misspelling "jicama."
Lahti attends Parkview Center School in Roseville. He will be sent to the Scripps National Spelling Bee set to take place May 26 – June 1 in Washington, D.C.
