TROY, Mich. (WJBK) -

Maple syrup is one of the original products of the State of Michigan, and you can learn all about it at the Lloyd A. Stage Nature Center in Troy.

"Maple Syrup Time -- Past and Present" is being jointly presented by the Troy Historic Society and the Troy Nature Society.

The program will teach you how sugar sap is harvested from maple trees.  You'll also tour a historic sugar camp and visit a sugar shed where the sap is turned into syrup using a wood-stoked sap evaporator.  You'll even be able to sample some maple syrup on mini-waffles.

In his video report, Jay Towers takes you inside the sugar shed.

"The society, we do educational programs... at the Lloyd A. Stage Nature Center.  So we have a collaborative project this year, and we expect about a thousand people to visit us over the next three Saturdays," said Carol Reeb with the Troy Nature Society.

"Maple Syrup Time" is being held on March 2, 9 and 16 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with tours starting every half hour.  The cost is $7.00 per person with a $1.00 discount for Historic Society and Nature Society members.  For more information, visit www.troynaturesociety.org.

The Lloyd A. Stage Nature Center is located at 6685 Coolidge Highway in Troy.
