Cubs to end ticket-buying tradition at Wrigley Field

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

The Cubs are ending one of their most popular traditions among ticket-buying fans in the city, eliminating the annual two-hour preseason window to buy single-game tickets.

On Tuesday the team announced that this year's event, scheduled for 8 a.m. March 8 at the Wrigley Field ticket office will be its last, claiming issues involved with the planned Wrigley renovation project as well as increased use by fans of online purchasing led to the decision.

As in past years, online and phone sales begin as soon as the two-hour window expires.

Fans willing to pay 15-percent or 20-percent surcharges to avoid waiting in line for tickets on March 8 can get a jump on the process by going online March 6, starting at noon. Those using a MaterCard pay the 15-percent "premium." Everybody else pays 20.
